Construction is starting this year on number of new port facilities at Glebe Island and White Bay. Construction materials: cement, sand, aggregate; will arrive by trucks and ships. Concrete will be mixed on site and trucked out to many of Sydney's construction-boom building sites. The port will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and so will the trucks. This is what we know so far...
These port facilities are being built to support Sydney's pipeline of infrastructure projects which seems to grow in size almost weekly.
Project pipeline
The WestConnex website lists fourteen “related projects … to address the needs of a growing Sydney”.
Some are not expected to be finished until the end of next decade, but almost all that have started are behind
schedule, over budget and the cause of grief for residents in their path. Sydney will be living with the impacts of this building spree for a very long time. It must be done safely.
The DA for Hanson's Concrete Batching site at White Bay is on exhibition until 15th May. Please download the information sheet and use it to write a submission to Dept of Planning.
